After doing this project, I was able to learn about many different things and learned that Cebu,Baguio, and American cultures are different and alike in a variety of ways.
For my project, I got to choose out of 3 genres. History, Geography, and Civics. I decided to do Geography and Cultures. I chose to do my project on cultures because I wanted to experience and learn about different, weird, and ebullient lifestyles. The different cultures are about Baguio, Cebu, and America. My driving question was, “How are Cebu,Baguio, and American cultures different and alike?” Based on my research, I was able to come up with many conclusions. In the article, “Cebu” by: Trip Advisor it discussed about how Cebu people are very passionate and strong believing in their love for music. In Cebu, they feel that only the best musicians can make it and anything less than your best will not take you anywhere. Cebu people tend to judge peoples’ performances, posture, presentation, and of course, how well they played the piece. This is different from some Baguio customs and American customs because these areas don’t focus on music as much as Cebu.
Based on the research found by my partner, Maegan Santiago (who is researching Baguio) she states that Baguio is known for their relaxing views, fun activities, exciting landmarks, and popular tourism. In fact, they have the special title of being called the “Summer Capitol” of the Philippines. This is different from American culture because America ranges from a lot of point of views on a lot of different hobbies and or things such as, politics, government, economy, music, cuisines, tourism, and much more. They are also alike in many ways.
One important thing that Baguio, Cebu, and American cultures all share is there highly strong opinions and their love for food. America, Cebu, and Baguio all have weird, intriguing, and delicious cuisines that will make your taste buds water like a river, but you’ll find more about that later. But, there are many signs and supporting details that help conclude how Baguio, Cebu, and America all have very strong opinions. Cebu and Baguio have strong opinions about their beliefs and aren’t ashamed of themselves or their weird cultures (based on research found on weebly). America also has lots of strong opinions that can go from owning property, building new landmarks, voting, choosing the Democrats or Republicans; all the way to saving the trees, building a new a park, or holding an annual fundraiser throughout the country. All of these details can support how Baguio, Cebu, and American customs are alike and different.
However, I learned more from this project than just about cultures. I learned that different cultures is what makes the world what it is. A place filled with different languages, exotic clothing, strict preparations, and joyful dancing. This project helped me realize that there is more than just home town Las Vegas. More than the United States. And more than North America. I got to learn about my Dad’s culture who is from Cebu. He supported me and was proud of me during this entire project. It wasn’t because I was doing it for the grades or the credit. He was proud of me because he knew how proud I was of my culture. I got to learn so much more about this side of me and I had tons of fun. Without this project, I never would’ve actually sat down and thought about a completely new lifestyle. Even though I was already really involved in my proud Filipino side, I got to take it to a whole new level with other cultures. So, I would like to thank my Dad and Cousin Marlowe from Cebu who taught many important customs, to believe strongly, and always think outside what you’ve experienced. That is what I have learned from this project and some special family members.
Thank you.

What do you think of when I say Etag, chocolate meat, or bacon? Disgusting (except for the bacon)? Actually, these are delicious, traditional filipino foods. Etag is a native Baguio food (a region in the Philippines) and chocolate meat or pig-blood stew is a native food in another region called Cebu that my partner, Demi Remolador wrote about. Bacon is pork or pig. Baguio foods, Cebu foods, and American foods are both yummy but, they are very different in many ways.
Cebu foods almost always have meat in them! For example,Kalderita Kanding is a goat meat stew, Cebu Lechon is a roasted pig (you eat the entire roasted pig. It isn't cut), and Ginabot are fried pig intestines. Yuck but, it's food. I don't know why Cebu people eat so much meat. Another example, is Dinugan or pig blood stew like I talked about earlier. (It's actually pretty good)
Baguio foods have a lot of fruits and vegetables in their foods because Baguio is the Summer Capitol of the Philippines and the residents grow a lot of crops there. Some of Baguio's foods are the Baguio Bounty salad. This food has lettuce and strawberries. Another food is Eggplant Parmigiana. By the name you can tell there is eggplant in this and eggplant is a vegetable. Finally, the last food is Hill Station Salad. This food has mixed greens, tomatoes, blueberries and more ingredients. All of these foods I just named all have either vegetables or fruits.
Most of the American foods are greasy. For example, bacon, fries, hamburgers, deep-fried chicken fingers, and more. Everybody knows what bacon and fries are so, I'm not going to explain it. So, Baguio is all fruits and veggies, Cebu is meat, and America is greasy.
In conclusion, my driving question was "How are Baguio foods different from Cebu and American foods". My images, video, article, website, and children's resource helped me understand my driving question more and I was able to put all that information into a constructed response. Along the way, I also learned a lot of mind-boggling facts. For example, some people in Baguio only wear loincloths, people in Cebu are strict in music, and Baguio has the Lourdes Grotto which is a stairway with 252 steps!
